Case Study: World Triathlon Para Series Swansea

ATZ have provided event safety cover for the first 2 years of the World Triathlon Para Series in Swansea as well as various other British Triathlon major events over the last 3 years.
The team provided by ATZ on this event include:
  • Event Safety Co-ordinator
  • Route Safety Co-ordinator
  • 7 x ATZ Safety Motos
  • Event Control Room Co-ordinator
  • 2 x Event Control Room operator / loggists
  • 3 x Route Safety sector managers
Having such a comprehensive team of event safety staff on this event allowed ATZ to put together very cohesive and joined up plans for all aspects of event safety, route safety, route co-ordination, and emergency response.
ATZ were engaged from the very beginning of the project and were fully involved in the SAG and multi agency process. ATZ put together C3 plans and were the main point of contact to the city and emergency services on event weekend.
ATZ put together all of the route plans, crowd management and stewarding plans as well as the route risk assessments to have oversight of everything taking place on or around the field of play utilising its sector and Moto resource to have a cohesive response to any issue throughout the weekend.
ATZ Motos operated a safe course familiarisation on the Friday on partially closed roads with the support of the ATZ management team.
As part of the crisis committee, we were fundamental to the decision making process to change the format to Aquathlon with the cancellation of the bike due to the forecast 50mph+ winds and the required adaptations to the venue to ensure the event could still be retained for participants, volunteers, event staff and spectators alike.
With oversight of the C3 process, SAG, emergency and contingency plans ATZ provided comprehensive cover of all aspects of event safety, site safety, route safety, command and control.

Andy and Jim and their team supported me throughout the planning and delivery phases of the World Triathlon Para Series in Swansea and the World Triathlon Series test event in Sunderland. They supported throughout the SAG process and ensuring paperwork, event safety plans, risk assessments and other key documents were in a good place while also working with emergency services to ensure there was a joined up approach to command and control.
The route safety element of the event was also overseen by ATZ too, with their Moto team and route sector managers implementing the plans on the ground over event weekend.
It really worked to have a joined up approach to all aspects of route safety, event safety and event control management. There was no confusion – it was really slick and well joined up.
