Case Study: Cambridge Half Marathon

ATZ Event Safety has managed the site safety, pre event document review and overseen the safety of the route infrastructure set up and derig for the Cambridge Half Marathon for the last 3 years.
The event is now a sell out with more than 15,000 runners each year and is one of the most popular and well attended participation events in the UK.
ATZ work with the organisers OSB to review site plans, contractor documentation, event safety and management plans, risk assessments and provide ad-hoc advice in the lead up to the event.
For the event weekend, ATZ are the first people on site and the last people off it overseeing contractor build and de-rig and ensuring public, staff and contractor safety.
On the Friday, Saturday and Sunday ATZ have additional resource on site to support the build of barrier and route infrastructure throughout the city centre.
In addition, 4 members of the ATZ moto team support the event with lead out, tail end and route safety duties. A mobile event safety resource on an event of this type who can quickly and skilfully go off route to get to developing issues, report back and find dynamic solutions is a valuable asset on such a long and busy route.
We started working with ATZ Event Safety in 2021 as we returned to delivering our events post COVID. Andy, Jim and team have a lot of experience and their approach of bespoke, common sense and proportionate health and safety to suit our events has provided us with the assurance we needed and in many ways has made our lives so much easier, allowing us to focus on delivering a great experience for our participants, knowing our site is in safe hands.
